Rumours are abound that New Line - the studio we must all thank for bringing us two Sex And The City films - is planning a big screen adaptation of The Carrie Diaries, which sounds similar to the Muppet Babies cartoon except more shoe-obsessed and definitely less entertaining. In other words, what we're looking at here is a Sex and the City: The Prequel.

The Carrie Diaries, which came out in April, was written by SATC creator Candace Bushnell and centres on Carrie Bradshaw's high school 'adventures' before she moves to New York City and meets her gang. Just a quick glance at the synopsis on Wikipedia should give you an idea of what to expect. Here's a taste: 'Then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture, and a friend's betrayal makes her question everything.' Ouch.

The hot gossip on the proposed film idea is that Miley Cyrus could be in the running to take the role of teenage Carrie (played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the TV series and movies). Cyrus appeared in SATC2 playing herself, and recently remarked to the BBC her thoughts about playing such an influential character: "I would totally do it. It would be so cool."

Even though the second SATC film has underperformed at the box office, it's obvious that the studio are willing to push the brand anyway they can, so the back-pedalling 'origin story' is the logical step.. uhhhh... forwards. Throw in some doomed teenage vampires as the high school love interest and they'll have an all-consuming franchise mash-up on their hands.

Anyway, perhaps they needn't bother because, whatever the studio comes up with, nothing could be as spot-on as the amazing spoof Six And The City (from Elle Virgo Productions) which you can watch below...
