A description of the Captain America costume has been floating around the interwebs for a few days now, ever since JoBlo was handed a batch of concept art images from the upcoming Marvel movie that they were allowed to describe, but not post. We're not sure what exactly happened between now and then, but today AICN has snagged the same images and posted them online for all to see. We're being told that this is the costume Chris Evans will wear in Captain America: The First Avenger, due in theaters on July 22nd, 2011.
Fans of Cap will notice right away that his iconic wings are missing, and his mask is more like a helmet that extends down to wrap around his eyes. Seeing as the film will primarily be set during World War II, it's not hard to spot the little old school touches they've given the suit. It feels familiar, but it also looks like something from another time. Like in the first Iron Man, Steve Rogers (Evans) will wear two different suits throughout the film, with this one being his primary, let's-kick-some-ass suit.. The other suit will be one that's issued by the Army for USO appearances and be closer to the costume we've come to know over the years.
Joe Johnston is directing the film, which also stars Huge Weaving, Sebastian Stan and Hayley Atwell. Check out a larger version of the image up top below, and more over at AICN.
