The great ape is preparing to climb the Empire State Building -- in high definition.

Heat Vision reports that the original 'King Kong' will be making its way from Skull Island to the land of Blu-ray on September 28, 2010. The Blu-ray edition is being released by Warner Home Video.

The high-definition iteration of the 1933 RKO classic will have the same extras featured on Turner Home Entertainment's two-disc special edition that was released in 2005 to coincide with Peter Jackson's remake, including the seven-part documentary, 'RKO Production 601: The Making of King Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World.' The Blu-ray edition will also feature a 32-page booklet written by film historian Rudy Behlmer and containing rare photographs and trivia. Behlmer also apparently interviewed 'Kong' creator Merian C. Cooper back in the day.

'King Kong' is considered by many to be one of the best monster movies ever made as well as one of the most influential films of the 20th century.
