In spite of the fact my CD shelf is drooping from the weight of my movie soundtrack collection, I own very few soundtracks that are comprised of music especially written for the film. But, the official soundtrack to South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut is one of the few that holds a prominent spot on the shelf, because I firmly believe that Matt Stone and Trey Parker's musical is one of the finest ever made (I'll give you a minute to let that sink in), and the subject of today's Summer Scenes (Songs) We Love.

Released in June of 1999, the flick was one of the few TV to movie transfers that arguably improved on the original series, not to mention Uncut remains as one of the most entertaining commentaries on movie censorship and the MPAA in film history. In the musical comedy, the Colorado boys go on a quest to save their heroes Terrance and Phillip from an overzealous parents group while trying to stop an invasion by Satan and his on again, off again boyfriend, Saddam Hussein. But the movie was about so much more than that, and that is where Stone and Parker are unmatched; delivering a message without the audience even noticing it.

Beyond being ridiculously crude, the songs are incredibly catchy (thanks to some help from Marc Shaiman), and each song is a nod to some of the biggest moments in the history of musicals. But, if I'm forced to choose, I'm going to have to go with La Resistance as the crowning achievement in the film -- maybe because that way I get a little taste of all the songs in the film. There isn't a trace of irony in the performance, and that's what made the song so great; they weren't designed to be jokes, they were meant to be genuine musical numbers -- and they were spectacular.

After the jump; "Looks like we may be outta luck...tomorrow night we're pretty f**cked."

Warning: NSFW doesn't even begin to cover the twisted genius of Stone and Parker, so you might want to grab some headphones for this one.

As an added bonus: more proof of Stone and Parker's musical genius -- they can even make Lady Gaga songs entertaining.
