'Salt,' which comes out July 23, stars Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent caught up in a plot to assassinate the president. She claims to be innocent, but can we trust her? We don't know. Perhaps in Mission 2 of this web game, Photo Surveillance, we'll learn more about whose side Salt is on. Let's play, shall we? Today, in our neverending quest to play video games at work, we'll be playing Mission 2 of the 'Salt' web game Day X Exists. In the interest of learning about this new trend in viral marketing, I'll be playing the game each week and blogging about it.

Mission 2 -- Photo Surveillance
You are a junior agent at the CIA, and have been having covert conversations with Agent Salt as she attempts to exonerate herself and solve the Day X plot while on the run from the law. Today we receive a call from Salt. She's using her voice changer again, and tells you that she's picked up some intelligence chatter that several Day X suspects will be gathering at Benton Square to make an exchange. You must go there to photograph them from a rooftop perch. You don't want to let Salt down.
You'd think snapping some pictures would be easy, but this camera isn't some point-and-shoot Polaroid joint. You need to actually focus the camera while the characters move around. It's not easy to get a good shot, which makes it a fun challenge. You use the left and right arrows to focus he camera, and the mouse to snap a shot when the focus area turns red.
There are three suspects -- two males and one female. They appear to be carrying and exchanging documents, and whispering secrets to each other. When you successfully complete the mission by taking clear photographs, the CIA is then enabled to do a background check on the suspects, which yields some interesting results.
One suspect is Anton Urbanos, a Lithuanian special agent who was expelled from their army after beating a fellow soldier to death. The female suspect is revealed to be Emilijia Senkute, a European intelligence agent known as "Beautiful Death." She is known to use seductive techniques to get information. (I am intrigued.) The third suspect, believed to be the ringleader, remains unidentified, which raises suspicions within the agency that the Day X plotters may be using "sleeper suspects" who have been living in the United States for years without registering on the CIA's radar. The symbol on the envelope also doesn't register, though it does feel important. The CIA is now following the suspects. The bosses at the agency seem to be trusting you more.
As a side note, I now find myself talking and writing like a CIA Agent. Am I becoming Agent Evelyn Salt? This game truly is an immersive experience. See you next week for the third mission.
