Pixie LottOkay, here's one to file under 'Bit Of An Odd Pairing'. Pop star Pixie Lott is set to star alongside Iron Man 2's Sam Rockwell in a comedy called Sweet Baby Jesus - in which the pair will play a modern day Mary and Joseph in a contemporary retelling of the Nativity story.

Lott will play a hippie named Mary (in a part that Britney Spears was set to play before she pulled out) in the 1970s who, with her boyfriend Joe (Rockwell), visits her mum for Christmas in Bethlehem, Maryland and soon sets the small town buzzing with talk that her pregnancy might signal the second coming.

To add to its quirky line-up, Sweet Baby Jesus also boasts Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall - who'll play Mary's mother - while Bette Midler will be the local gossipy innkeeper.

The film's set to be directed by Peter Hewitt - the man behind Garfield and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (so we're probably not expecting much Oscar activity from this one) - who said: "[The film] allows us to experience the wonder of the second coming and witness modern reactions to those events. I am so delighted with the cast so far assembled - from film newcomer, Pixie Lott, to film goddess, Bette Midler, all connected by a love for this extraordinary project."

Filming on Sweet Baby Jesus begins in Maryland and Ireland this August.
