Frogs. Since time immemorial, these hopping, slimy green pests have disrupted human existence with their incessant, throaty croaking and their participation in Biblical plagues. But now, thanks to Hollywood, mankind has finally found the perfect weapon to combat the terror of the frogs: Jason Priestley.

Okay, that might be overstating things a bit, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the former 'Beverly Hills 90210' heartthrob has been hired to direct a new frog-centric romantic comedy. Titled 'Mad Puppy,' the movie is "about a playboy wine-lover battling a female environmentalist for control of a frog-plagued wine vineyard." Frogs. Titled 'Mad Puppy,' the movie is "about a playboy wine-lover battling a female environmentalist for control of a frog-plagued wine vineyard."

While that may not immediately seem to have Jason Priestley written all over it, the star is no stranger to wine at least (no word on his experience with frogs). Besides co-hosting the celebrity wine series 'Hollywood and Vines,' Priestley also co-owns a winery in British Columbia, which makes him the perfect man to take on this project. 'Mad Puppy' is based on true events that took place at another BC winery, which was overrun by amphibians.

No word yet on casting, though they appear to have some time to consider it as production isn't set to begin until the summer of 2011. Personally, we think they should bring on some of Priestley's old '90210' co-stars to round out the cast; perhaps Luke Perry as the playboy vintner and Shannen Doherty as the environmentalist? With Ian Ziering as the frogs.

This isn't Priestley's first directorial effort; in addition to a number of TV films, Priestley is also a regular director on series such as 'The Lake' and 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager.' 'Mad Puppy' is being developed by Telefilm Canada and Corus Entertainment.
