Having a bad day? Life got you down? Just get home from a soul-crushing shift at work? You cracking open a beer and contemplating the pistol in your dresser drawer? Well, be prepared to get happy, because Sam Rockwell has joined the cast Cowboys & Aliens, which is quickly shaping up to be the best thing since...maybe anything.

We've written about Jon Favreau's upcoming science fiction western quite a bit here on SciFi Squad and for good reason: it sounds awesome. If you don't want to see Daniel Craig unloading a six shooter into a slimy alien's head(s), then I have no interest in knowing you. Go. Scurry. Scram. Get out of my line of sight.

Rockwell will take on the role of "...a bar owner named Doc who joins in the pursuit of the aliens." Apparently, the role was written for a "heavy-set" actor, but it was rewritten and expanded after Rockwell showed interest in the film. He probably saw the title and said "Holy sh-t! This movie's about cowboys fighting aliens!" and decided right then and there that he had to be a part of it. In addition to being one of the great actors of his generation (you know this to be true), I like to think that Rockwell digs westerns and awesome science fiction. After all, he has The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Moon under his belt.

Either way, Sam Rockwell is going to be a cowboy! And he's going to be fighting aliens!

Cowboys & Aliens will arrive next summer. Rockwell joins James Bond, Indiana Jones and Olivia Wilde. The script, based on a comic of the same name, is by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, who, between them, have worked on Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek, Fringe and Lost. Have I made it obvious that I have a good feeling about this one?
