You want an actor fit to play an evil Nazi mastermind with a major case of the facial disfigurements who uses his extreme intellect and hardcore fascist training to wreak havoc across the entire Marvel universe, namely in Captain America's backyard? You get Hugo Weaving.

It was reported some time ago that Weaving was up for the part of Red Skull in the Captain America movie, but actual confirmation came from Marvel today, ensuring that we'll get to see Chris Evans, wearing red, white and blue spandex, duke it out with Weaving, looking like William Castle's Nazi fever dream, during a World War II that will probably not be too period accurate.

Weaving is no stranger to geeky properties, having played Elrond in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Agent Smith in the Matrix films and V in V For Vendetta. Heck, he's even the voice of Megatron in the Transformers movies! He was also the best part of this year's The Wolfman, where he must of made the proper impression on Captain America director Joe Johnston.

Weaving has a special kind of gravitas, an energy around him that lends credence to even the most ridiculous of plots. Even though he'll be buried under that Red Skull make-up and will surely have some sort of ridiculous and dastardly scheme to take down Captain America, Weaving will surely make it work. In fact, I honestly can't think of anyone else I'd rather see in the role.
