Most of us here in the States haven't had a chance to check out Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero's Rec 2, but the early buzz from overseas has been overwhelmingly positive. So positive, in fact, that production company Filmax is already moving ahead with not one, but two new installments in the franchise according to Twitch.

Rumors of a third film have been circulating for months, but news that a fourth installment is in the works took everyone by surprise. Filmax had some new promotional artwork in their offices at the European Film Market, and have now officially announced the two projects.

No plot details have been revealed, but we do know that Plaza and Balaguero will return to direct. However, in a change from what's come previously, the directing duo will be splitting up. Plaza will direct one entry while Balaguero will direct the other. Presumably, this means the two films could be made at roughly the same time. The potential fly in the ointment here is that Balaguero has another project, entitled Flatmate, in pre-production as well. It remains unclear as to how his schedule will work out, but we'll bring you more details as they're announced.
