At one time, Lindsay Lohan was going to be a star. Her early career was filled with promise, but then a series of personal problems (too numerous to recount here) knocked her off course and the actress with the once bright future is now struggling to find work. Things may be turning around for Lohan, though, as E! Online's Marc Malkin is reporting that she has landed a role in the upcoming Inferno.

This news couldn't come at a better time for Lohan, who's become more infamous for her gossip column exploits, family and legal drama than she is for actually working these days. Lohan was fired from the forthcoming The Other Side just last week because she wasn't "bankable enough" to attract financing to the project.

Inferno will find Lohan playing Linda Lovelace, the real-life star of cult porn film Deep Throat according to her friend, photographer Tyler Shields. Lovelace went from a porn star to anti-porn crusader later in life, before dying of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in 2003.

Director Matthew Wilder was apparently set to announce the project at Cannes, but Shields spilled the beans early, claiming the director has asked him to do promo shots for the movie. An official announcement may still come at the festival, but it seems likely to be anticlimactic at this point.

Truthfully, this may be Lohan's last chance to save what's left of her career. If she can show up to work without becoming a distraction and turn in a good performance, she might be able to get things back on track. The real question is, does anyone even care anymore or has the actress' reputation become so toxic that even audiences want nothing to do with her now? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
