Josh Lucas' career is going to the dogs. Well, sort of.

Variety reports that Lucas ('Peacock') is set to star in the Australian film 'Red Dog,' based on the Louis De Bernieres novel about a kelpie dog that unites a community of miners in the 70s and 80s.

Starring alongside Lucas will be Noah Taylor, Rachael Taylor, Luke Ford and Keisha Castle-Hughes. Josh Lucas' career is going to the dogs. Well, sort of.

Kriv Stenders ('Lucky Country') will direct the adaptation from a script by Daniel Taplitz. Shooting begins later this year in the Pilbara region of western Australia. 'Red Dog' is set to hit theaters in 2011.

In the meantime, you can see Lucas in the upcoming Edgar Allen Poe retelling 'Tell Tale,' and with James Franco in 'William Vincent,' both due out later this year.
