I wish I could take credit for finding this one, but it all goes to our own John Gholson who beeped me with this link a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since then. Meet Trisha K. Paytas, otherwise known as Grindhouse Barbie. She has a ravenous crush on Quentin Tarantino, her bedroom is bathed in pink and Hello Kitty (sometimes it looks like a 9-year-old lives there), she's addicted to tanning and false eyelashes, and even plays the banjo! Basically, she might take over the world one day and while I'm not sure that's a good thing, after watching her videos I realized we had a few things in common -- one of them being our obsessive love for David Cronenberg and his film The Fly.
Trisha made a video (I hear the kids call them vlogs nowadays) that expresses her true love for the Canadian director, where she announces the he will be remaking The Fly. Granted, this vlog entry was posted when the news was first announced in September last year, but I thought it relevant since the gang here recently watched Kurt Neumann's 1958 original Fly flick for the Horror Squad Movie Club. Some people were scoffing at the idea of the director doing this remake, but if anyone were to do it -- it should be him and Grindhouse Barbie wholeheartedly agrees. In her valley girl voice, Trisha explains her love of science (she's currently a genetics major) and even writes a heartfelt letter to Cronenberg on her website in support of the project. The best part though has to be when she smothers the camera with her breasts, which stretched across them on a pink tank top reads "Brundlefly" in silver, glittery letters. Yes, Trisha is suggesting that Cronenberg cast her as the female version of Seth Brundle, played brilliantly by Jeff Goldblum. In the film Goldblum is a scientist who invents a teleportation device that also happens to transform him into a horrific insect.
She could be joking, or she could be serious -- it doesn't really matter. Check it out and let us know if you find the juxtaposition of pink, bleach blonde and Cronenberg as amusing and bizarre as we do. And more power to you Trisha -- it's nice to know that not all Cronenberg fans are doomy and gloomy. Cheeseburger! Visit Grindhouse Barbie on her website for more info.
