Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox is planning a remake of 'Commando,' the 1985 action flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a retired special forces operative who blows up half the world to get his kidnapped daughter back.

The 'Commando' reboot will be written and directed by David Ayer, who plans on a less cartoon-ish approach to the premise, making his hero less brawny and more skilled in covert tactics and weaponry.

'Commando' is one of the most beloved -- an endlessly quotable -- Schwarzenegger adventures, as well as one of his first heroic turns after portraying the title role in James Cameron's 'The Terminator.' The film also starred Alyssa Milano as his daughter, Rae Dawn Chong as the flight attendant who becomes his sidekick and Dan Hedaya as a villainous dictator.

David Ayer's other writer-director credits include 'Harsh Times,' starring Christian Bale, and 'Street Kings,' starring Keanu Reeves. He also wrote the acclaimed screenplay for 'Training Day,' starring Oscar winner Denzel Washington.
