Bill CondonIt's official: Oscar-winning writer-director Bill Condon will direct 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,' Summit Entertainment confirmed today in a press release.

"I'm very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book - and we're hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience," said Bill Condon in a statement.

The news ends months of speculation as to who will direct the film, based on the fourth and final book in Stephanie Meyer's 'Twilight' series.

Previously rumored to be up for the gig were Stephen Daldry ('Billy Elliot,' 'The Reader,') Sofia Coppola ('Lost in Translation,' 'Marie Antoinette') and Gus Van Sant ('Good Will Hunting,' 'Milk'). Condon, who directed Jennifer Hudson to a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in the 2006 musical 'Dreamgirls,' won an Oscar himself for penning the 1998 film 'Gods and Monsters,' starring Ian McKellen.

Additional projects include 'Kinsey' and the pilot episode of the upcoming Showtime series 'The Big C,' with 'Kinsey' co-star Laura Linney.

'Twilight: Eclipse' hits theaters on June 30.
