There's been talk of an Ozzy Osbourne biopic for years, at least as far back as 2002, when the metal legend's wife, Sharon, talked about wanting Johnny Depp to star in such a film. Entertainment Weekly later claimed the project was near a greenlight at Paramount. But it's been seven years since then, and a documentary produced by son Jack seemed the only movie prospect for the former Black Sabbath singer in all that time. Now Mrs. Osbourne is again talking biopic, this time during a press conference for Celebrity Apprentice. And the current status of the project, as reported by The Dish Rag, has been elevated to "imminent."

"There's about to be a big announcement," she said during the NBC event. "It's been picked up and it's going into production. We're going to make a press announcement hopefully within the next two weeks. [There's no cast] yet, but we have a producer and we have lots of money and we're all starting."

Depp won't be involved, unfortunately, though Ozzy himself championed for the actor earlier this year, after his memoir I Am Ozzy hit bookstores. According to Pop Crunch, he then said of a potential film that "people are working on scripts right now." And he liked the Pirates of the Caribbean star because, "He's one of the few actors who knows about rock 'n' roll who does a really good English accent."

According to Sharon, however, they're going with an unknown ("somebody new") for the lead. Meanwhile she suggests Carey Mulligan ("the girl from An Education, the English girl") as a candidate to play her. Yet another option would be for daughter Kelly to play her own mom: "She's a mini me," Sharon acknowledged, "so yeah, she would be good."

All these ideas are as speculative as Courtney Love's constant picks for the planned Kurt Cobain biopic, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens with this biopic. Hopefully we'll really have more substantial news in two weeks, as promised.

Who would you pick to play the couple?
