It's a wonderful life for one of 'dem Duke boys. Well, kind of.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, John Schneider -- Bo Duke from 'The Dukes of Hazzard' -- has agreed to star in 'Doonby,' a modern-day version of the Jimmy Stewart classic 'Its a Wonderful Life,' but "with a little more edge."

Schneider will play the title character, Sam Doonby, a drifter who settles in a Texas town, only to find himself impervious to the bad luck that befalls the townsfolk. British filmmaker Peter Mackenzie will write and direct the film, and AC/DC's Brian Johnson will provide the soundtrack. It's a wonderful life for one of 'dem Duke boys. Well, kind of.

"It's a real clever script that you can't quite figure out until the final minutes of the story," Schneider told the Hollywood Reporter. "But nowadays, it's the people involved in the projects that attract me more than the projects themselves. There has to be a high level of integrity, passion and skill."

Aside from his six seasons opposite Tom Wopat as one of the rascally Duke boys of Hazzard County, Schneider's been known recently for his portrayal of a young Superman's father on 'Smallville' and several appearances on the reincarnated '90210.'

His more recent film roles have been in Christian-themed fare, including 'What Would Jesus Do?' (on DVD this August) and 'Holyman Undercover,' in which he plays Satan himself. He also stars in the horror film 'Snow Beast,' which will come out next year.
