Another day, another Star Wars rumour to enthrall and unite mankind in shared celebration. This time it would seem that there's a new animated Star Wars series on the way, apparently set directly after Return Of The Jedi. What's more, everyone's favourite characters will be returning, with some even coming back from the dead (probably to wring more dollars out of the obvious merchandise opportunities). I'd wager that Boba Fett is crawling out of the Sarlacc Pit as we speak...

Thanks to endless books, the continuing adventures of the Star Wars crew have been known for years: Han and Leia shacked up and had twins, the Empire never really went away, a new appallingly-named baddie emerged from the shadow of Vader (Admiral Thrawn, anyone?), it was discovered that R2D2 was really Brian J. Peppers in disguise, while Luke married an Ewok and opened a chain of hairdressers. Okay, maybe not those last two.

Anyway, the story that has sent many a fan's midi-chlorian count through the roof is that Steve Sansweet (a representative from The Federal Bank of Lucasfilm) told fans at the C2E2 pop culture convention recently that the animated series would be based on the original series' core characters.

There's some confusion about whether this will be an all-new show (similar to The Clone Wars) or the highly anticipated Star Wars comedy from the creators of Robot Chicken (which, apparently, will also be a cartoon), but it doesn't really matter at the moment. Just the thought of catching up with old friends has caused many a middle-aged man to have to go and have a little lie down...
