If Breck Eisner is the new go-to director for remakes, then that's okay with me. I thoroughly enjoyed his version of The Crazies, and now he's close to covering Escape from New York for New Line (according to The Hollywood Reporter). Eisner's work hasn't blown me away, but he's dependable and particularly adept at elevating B-movie concepts.

It's a thankless job, because the only thing that will really matter is the casting of Snake Plissken. While it looked like Gerard Butler was going to don Kurt Russell's eyepatch several months ago, the remake stalled out and Butler moved on to other movies. That may be a blessing to the producers, as Butler hasn't been able to recapture his 300 success at the box office. I imagine the hunt will soon be on to find someone that can fill the iconic role.

It's tricky business. Hollywood was smart to cast Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger and anyone that saw Bronson can get behind the idea of Thomas Hardy as Mad Max. Plissken is just as iconic as those two, and, right now, I can't really think of anyone that I'd want to see in the part. How about you?
