Here's some rather heavy news concerning last month's Academy Awards ceremony (or 'The Oscars' to proles like you and I): relatively unknown actor, Michael AvMen, is claiming that he and his wife were unlawfully imprisoned at the ceremony, and is suing the Oscar bosses for a whopping $50 million (£33 million).

AvMen, who is set to star opposite Kate Bosworth in upcoming film Straw Dogs and in Michelle Rodriguez's movie Battle: Los Angeles, claims he was given two "tentatively confirmed" tickets to the March 7 event which he could pick up once inside the venue.

However, after a quick trundle down the red carpet, he and his wife were slung into a detention centre (specially built for the awards?), held for six hours and interrogated by officials about their 'trespassing'. Finally, they were taken to a police station and released without any charges being made.

The lawsuit states that AvMen and his wife suffered "sustained injury to his and her body and shock and injury to their nervous system" and have been experiencing "humiliation, mental anguish and emotional and physical distress". You have to admit, those are pretty serious charges (well, not the 'humiliation' part - that probably comes from boasting on Facebook a week before and then not having any photos to tag themselves in...)

So, it remains to be seen how this one turns out. Hollywood newcomer Avmen has five film appearances under his belt (most of them uncredited and all of them yet to be released); having made such serious allegations (whether they're true or not), it's doubtful that he'll ever work in that town again.
