Though we're fully aware that time travel really isn't possible (in the sense that I can't hop, skip and jump on over to the Middle Ages whenever I want), we still desperately want to believe that we'll eventually find a way to transform a phone booth (or DeLorean) into a time-traveling piece of awesomeness. Or maybe we already have?

A recent photo from 1940 has caused a bit of a stir online because in it there's some random hipster dude hanging out wearing the types of clothes that weren't invented yet. While experts jumped to prove whether or not the photo was indeed real, Boing Boing had to come along and spoil everything with their quotes from people who know way more about clothes than you. They say ...

"The outfit could also be found 70 years ago. Being used as we are to our contemporary fashion, we look at the man and assume he's wearing a stamped T-shirt, something that would be indeed out of place (or time). But if you look carefully, you can see that he's actually wearing (or could as well be wearing) a sweatshirt. And sweatshirts with bordered emblems were not uncommon in the 1940s – in fact you can find those in other photos from the same exhibit."

Oh well ... I guess if anything this photo proves that annoying hipsters weren't invented in the 1990s.
