When Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides added French up-and-comer Astrid Berges-Frisbey, I teased that she might become the next Keira Knightley to rise from the waves. Well, now it appears they may have found the world's next Orlando Bloom. According to an official press release from Walt Disney, On Stranger Tides has added the young English actor Sam Claflin to the cast.

Disney is still keeping the plot of Tides under wraps, but they revealed that Claflin will be playing a young missionary named Philip. Since the film is rumored to deal with the Fountain of Youth, I'm guessing it will venture into Spanish held territories, and that he may be a Catholic missionary. What on earth is Disney thinking by casting a young, handsome Englishman like that and then putting him in a priest's collar? That's going to be an awkward message to send to the young girls of the audience. But I suppose it's no more confusing than asking them to pine over pirates in general, or for audiences to see the upstanding British navy as the villains of the piece.

Those desperate for more clues may find them in the filming locations. According to the press release, the fourth installment will be filming in Hawaii, Great Britain, and Los Angeles. None of the previous three Pirates films have ventured into the UK, even for interior studio filming, so Jack Sparrow may be visiting the home country, insofar as he hails from one. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is now slated to open May 20, 2011.
