As one of the most iconic and influential women in American history, a big-budget treatment of Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis would seem long overdue. Now, though, the gears of the Hollywood machine are turning and it appears that 'Jackie' is about to become a reality, as the movie has found just the right star to play the All-American Girl: British actress Rachel Weisz.

Yes, according to Entertainment Weekly, Weisz has been tapped to star in writer Noah Oppenheim's examination of the days immediately following the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963. 'Jackie,' which last month was rumored to have Steven Spielberg attached, will actually be directed by Weisz's finacé and long time beau Darren Aronofsky. 'Jackie,' which last month was rumored to have Steven Spielberg attached, will actually be directed by Weisz's finacé and long time beau Darren Aronofsky.

This will be the second collaboration between the two, who previously teamed up for Aronofsky's tepidly received sci-fi opus 'The Fountain.' His other three films, however, have fared better both critically and commercially, with 'PI,' 'Requiem for a Dream' and 'The Wrestler' all becoming awards season staples.

Given the couple's pedigree, then -- Weisz herself scored an Academy Award for her supporting role in 2005's 'The Constant Gardener' -- the story of how Jackie O dealt with the loss of her husband would seem to be in good hands. But should this quintessentially American role have gone to an American actress instead?

Personally, we think Weisz will do an excellent job, but let us know what you think:
