According to Heat Vision, British actress Hayley Atwell has been cast as the female lead in 'The First Avenger: Captain America.' She'll play Peggy Carter, who in the comics was -- among other things -- an agent who helped the French Resistance.

The 22-year-old -- who reportedly did a screen test for the role last week in London -- joins the already cast Sebastian Stan and, of course, Chris Evans, who will play the titular character. Hugo Weaving is also in negotiations to play Red Skull. Hayley AtwellMeet 'Captain America''s sweetheart.

Other actresses said to be up for the part were Emily Blunt and Keira Knightley, according to the report.

Atwell's previous work on the big screen includes 'The Duchess,' 'Brideshead Revisited' and 'Cassandra's Dream.' She also recently appeared in the AMC miniseries 'The Prisoner' as Freya.

Joe Johnston is directing the film, which begins filming in England this summer.
