I love me a good 'ole fashioned cinematic doppelganger face off. The best ones tend to arrive in relatively close proximity to one another, a la Dante's Peak/Volcano and Deep Impact/Armageddon, but I'll still take a match-up that's a few years apart. The newest entry into this sacred pantheon may be my favorite pairing ever, too. It's called Sucker and it's directed by Michael Manaserri, a relative newcomer whose debut, Babysitter Wanted, will be hitting DVD and Blu-ray on May 15th. See if the official synopsis, courtesy of Famous Monsters of Filmland, sounds a little familiar:

"Lovable loser Jim Crawley is having a pretty bad day. He gets fired from his job at the Nuclear Power Plant he's worked at for 11 years, his car gets impounded, and he discovers his wife is having an affair with his ex co-worker. To make matters worse, Jim gets abducted by an evil scientist who is conducting tests of a controversial vaccine against a deadly virus that is spreading across the planet. It turns out that years of being exposed to nuclear radiation and a serum full of a rare insect DNA doesn't mix very well with Jim.....he mutates into a six foot, blood sucking, half human, half-insect that sets out for revenge."

That's right; move over Mansquito, there's a new, uh, mansquito in town! Granted there are a number of films about people who are turned into winged insects, but really, how many films specifically about half a man/half mosquito can one hope to find? The world is lucky enough to have one, I feel like we're collectively pushing our luck with a second.

Oh, and the image pictured is from Mansquito and not the in-production Sucker, but you of course knew that, right?
