In the hit theme song to 'Footloose,' singer Kenny Loggins famously commanded the world to "lose your blues. Everybody cut footloose." Now it appears that at least one sad figure won't be cutting footloose when the remake begins production this summer: 'Gossip Girl' star Chace Crawford.

It's not because Crawford doesn't have music in his soul, though. No, according to Entertainment Weekly, it's a simple scheduling issue: Crawford, who had been slated to take on Kevin Bacon's role as a musically inclined youth who brings the power of dance to a joyless town, is already scheduled to film 'Gossip Girl' at the same time 'Footloose' is now set to roll cameras. That means that Crawford is out, but fans of fancy footwork need not despair, because according to Variety, the show will go on, only with an as-yet uncast replacement for Crawford that will likely be hand picked by new director Craig Brewer.

Brewer, who also wrote the latest version of the script, is probably best known for writing and directing the indie smash 'Hustle & Flow,' which itself featured an array of catchy musical numbers, including the Oscar-winning ditty 'It's Hard Out There For a Pimp.' Based on that success, the suits at Paramount deemed him an appropriate replacement for its original director, Kenny Ortega, who dropped out due to exhaustion over his 'This Is It' work schedule.

Just who Brewer will choose to fill those famous dancing shoes is still unknown, but with filming expected to commence this summer, casting is likely to start immediately. And with such a high profile project, chances are there will be plenty of potential soft steppers for Paramount to pick from.

After all, even in Hollywood, if you don't want life to pass you by, sometimes you just gotta cut loose.
