Plenty of kids cuss up a storm when no parent-like people are around, or even when parents and teachers are around. (Kids these days!) But it's much rarer when we see kids on screen talking dirty; a hilarious example of a kid accidentally dropping the F-bomb without the film actually showing him say it is the classic A Christmas Story, when Ralphie the kid exclaims in slo-mo, "Fudge!" But of course, since it's a family movie, the adult Ralph explains it: "Only I didn't say 'Fudge.' I said THE word, the big one, the queen mother of dirty words, the F-dash-dash-dash word!"

Well, things aren't quite the way they were in Ralph's rosy-cheeked world any more, and there's no better evidence than this week's totally crazy superhero flick, Kick-Ass. The ass-kickingest kid among the bunch is a gal appropriately called Hit Girl, played by Chloe Moretz. Moretz isn't actually a stranger to sailor talk; she played the straight-talking little sister Rachel to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's heartsick Tom in (500) Days of Summer, and at least one piece of her admittedly wise advice was for Tom to "quit being a p***y." (Let's face it. She was right.)

Moretz one-ups herself in Kick-Ass, not only by trading in her soccer uniform for guns but dropping the c-bomb instead of, you know, that other word for female genitalia she used in Summer.

Don't get me wrong. I have used all of those words in various creative - dare I say ingenious?! - combinations. The c-word has lost some of its potency for various reasons, and that's fine with me, but I can't pretend I won't be shocked to actually hear it come from the mouth of an 11-year-old when I go to see Kick-Ass. That's not going to stop me from seeing it, though.
