'The Heights' centers around a family in an affluent Brooklyn neighborhood whose lives are turned upside down when a wealthy couple moves in next door. The novel was published by Dutton last month.

'The Heights' is Hedges' first novel in more than a decade, as he's been busy writing and directing for the screen. His writer-director credits include 'Dan in Real Life,' starring Steve Carell, and 'Pieces of April,' starring Katie Holmes. He also wrote the adaptation of Nick Hornby's 'About a Boy,' for which he received an Oscar nomination in 2003, and adapted his own 'Gilbert Grape' novel back in 1993, which starred Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio.

'The Heights' reunites Hedges with John Lyons, who produced 'Pieces of April' before he became the president of production at Focus Features.
