It's a casting match that appears to have been whipped up in some sort of comedy-culinary heaven. Variety is reporting that actor Ty Burrell ('Modern Family') is in final negotiations to star alongside Jennifer Garner in the Weinstein Co.'s upcoming comedy 'Butter.'

In the aptly-named film, Burrell would be portray a butter-carving champion pressured to give up his crown after 15 years of dominance. The butter-carving champion role appears to be a great feature role for Burrell. 'Modern Family' fans have seen the actor (who also makes an appearance in Tim Blake Nelson's 'Leaves of Grass') winningly play aw-shucks dorky as the extremely competitive and adorably dunder-headed Phil Dunphy on ABC's hit freshman series.

'Butter' was written by Jason Micallef and will be directed by Jim Field Smith ('She's Out of My League'). Garner and Mike De Luca are also producers on the project.

What do you think of Burrell in 'Butter'? Are you excited to see Burrell and Garner go the state fair route?
