Don't worry, we will never spoil anything pre-jump, though obviously everything after the break is operating under the assumption you've seen the film to the right, so be warned. And a big tip of our hat to Arbogast on Film for inspiring us with his post The One You Might Have Saved.
Fate: Presumed Dead
Cause of Death: Ravaged by a horny and hungry coven of werewolves.
Verdict: I Would Have Saved Him
Reason: There's so much to love about Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat, but the first thing that bolts into my mind when I think of the film isn't the killer spirit of Halloween, Sam, it's of Steven (Dylan Baker). He's such a great, charming character who comes across as a man with a thousand different secrets to tell. We know he's the school principal, we know he's a child murderer, and we also know he's a masked adult murder as well. So why would I have saved him from the jaws of a wolfed out Anna Paquin?
Because I'm a huge fan of filmmakers who can make a deplorable character lovable. I want Steven to have survived for my own selfish reasons. I want to see what other nasty little secrets that middle school principle is hiding. I want to know what other costumes he wears. I want to see more of his twisted relationship with his son, damn it!
But you know what? Until I started writing this piece it hadn't occurred to me that the audience never actually sees Steven kick the bucket. Sure, he's being eaten alive by a werewolf, but whose to say he doesn't then become a werewolf himself? Or some other kind of murderous wraith? Time to break out the pen and paper, I've got some fan fiction to write....
