We're not sure whether the filmmaker's decision to trust Mickey Rourke's advice and give his character a menacing bird will pay off in the long run for the movie. Bad guy pets don't often work in serious action films -- maybe they did back in the '70s and '80s, but they've been spoofed enough since then that, unless you roll up with something freaky and sinister, we're not taking you seriously. Where will Rourke's pet bird fit in to the equation? All we know is that Rourke himself suggested the bird so that his character could have something to talk to while he gets drunk and builds his deadly Whiplash costume. If the thing starts barking out one-liners, we're out of there.
