The Los Angeles Times brings word that Stephen Daldry ('The Reader') is now a candidate to direct the fourth and final installment in the 'Twilight' series, 'Breaking Dawn.' Daldry joins a list of A-list directors -- including Gus Van Sant ('Milk'), Bill Condon ('Gods and Monsters') and Sofia Coppola ('Lost in Translation') -- that Summit Entertainment is considering for the project.

Summit went for indie-grunge with Catherine Hardwicke ('Thirteen') directing 'Twilight,' polished and commercial with Chris Weitz ('The Golden Compass') directing 'New Moon' and genre-specific with David Slade ('Hard Candy,' '30 Days of Night') directing the upcoming 'Eclipse,' opening June 30. Now, the studio clearly wants a high-end auteur to close the series with class and style.

Stephen Daldry's other directing credits include 'Billy Elliot,' starring Jamie Bell, and 'The Hours,' starring Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep.

Incidentally, all three of Daldry's films have earned him Oscar nominations for Best Director.
