Over the course of his legendary career, Orson Welles broke new ground in both acting and directing, powering such landmark works as 'Citizen Kane' and 'Touch of Evil,' engineering the infamous 'War of the Worlds' radio broadcast and stunning theater goers with his landmark adaptation of 'Macbeth.' But now he's about to top even himself by releasing a new animated feature -- more than 25 years after his death.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, such death defying antics are possible thanks to a rare recording Welles made before his death featuring a full length narration of Robert X. Leed's self-published children's book 'Christmas Tails.' Thought lost for the past two decades, the tapes were recently rediscovered, leading Drac Studios to greenlight a live action/CG hybrid 3D feature film built around the recording. "It's a movie about how Santa's dog saves Christmas, but on one level, this a story about the discovery of Orson's lost tapes," Drac president Harvey Lowry told the Hollywood Reporter. "This is a substantial find. It's something that a filmmaker dreams of."

Whle Drac Studios is fairly new to the world of feature productions -- until now, the company has been best known as the special effects and makeup studio that aged and de-aged Brad Pitt in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' -- it isn't alone in believing this to be an important project. Todd Tucker, who teamed with Lowry to provide award-winning effects for films such as 'Titanic' and 'Bram Stoker's Dracula,' is already on board to direct, while some of Hollywood's biggest talents are lining up at the chance to co-star in the film, part of a wave of renewed interest in the director, who was featured last year in the Zac Efron vehicle 'Me & Orson Welles.'

"People see this as their last opportunity to act in a movie with Orson Welles," Lowry said.

Maybe. But at this point, with Welles, anything seems possible.

Even a comeback from beyond the grave.
