I never thought a manga-styled indie Canadian comic book about a slacker who must defeat his girlfriend's seven evil ex-boyfriends would become one of my favorite things ever, but somehow, it did. The Scott Pilgrim series is the perfect example of how comics are not, and should not, be entirely about superheroes.

The trailer for the movie adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, is online at Apple. Go watch it. I'll wait.

Watched it? Okay. Good. For those of you who have read the series...awesome, right? For those of you who have not read the series and haven't quite understood the hype surrounding the film...got it now? Director Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are perfect movies, so while my expectations are high, my faith is strong. This trailer shows that Wright understands Scott Pilgrim's geeky comedy and videogame style action, but will he nail the series' emotional core? The love story between Scott and Ramona? The various relationships and friendships within the large cast of characters?

Like I said: Faith = Strong. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits theaters in August.
