The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Jason Segel has signed on to play the "human lead" in the new Muppets movie, an honor previously held by Michael Caine in 'The Muppet Christmas Carol.' Segel will also join David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV as a producer on the film.

The currently untitled project will be directed by James Bobin ('Flight of the Conchords'), with Segel playing a man on a mission to find and reunite the Muppets. Segel also co-wrote the script with Nicholas Stoller ('Yes Man,' 'Get Him to the Greek') and is a self-proclaimed Muppets fanatic, as indicated by the end of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall.'

Jason Segel is a regular player on the CBS comedy 'How I Met Your Mother.' His feature film credits include 'I Love You Man' and 'Knocked Up.' He recently joined the Cameron Diaz comedy 'Bad Teacher' and will provide a voice in Universal's animated film 'Despicable Me,' opening July 9. And if that wasn't enough, he'll also appear in the upcoming comedy 'Jeff Who Lives at Home' opposite 'Office' and 'Hangover' star Ed Helms.
