Producer Gail Katz has been developing the project at Columbia Pictures for several years, with Steven Knight ('Dirty Pretty Things') recently turning in a new draft of the screenplay.

Fincher is also eyeing Columbia's American remake of 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,' based on Stieg Larsson's best-seller about a young female hacker and her relationship with a middle-aged journalist as they investigate a girl's disappearance. Though there is no deal currently in place, Fincher is at the top of the studio's list.

Columbia is eager to continue working with Fincher, who is currently in post-production on the Facebook drama 'The Social Network,' written by Aaron Sorkin. Fincher's last two films, 'Zodiac' and 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' were with Paramount.
