According to reports, Haim was found unresponsive in the apartment he shared with his mother and taken to California's St. Joseph Hospital at around 3.30am on Wednesday where he was pronounced dead. Police have called Haim's death "accidental".
Canadian born Haim rose to meteoric fame at a young age thanks to a string of hit movies including the cult classic, The Lost Boys, a film which included his frequent co-star Corey Feldman. The pair teamed up again in 2006 for a US reality show called The Two Coreys.
Haim, who had had a well documented struggle with drug addiction, had gone into rehab over 15 times. He admitted to using hard drugs and prescription pills.
"I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack." he said a few years ago. "I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium."
Haim had been attempting to make a comeback in recent years appearing in last year's Crank: High Voltage. He was also the subject of a 2004 single by the Thrills called 'Whatever Happened to Corey Haim?' Haim would later respond to this question with, "I'm clean, sober, humble and happy."
