When the first trailer for this May's 'Iron Man 2' debuted a few months ago, we were treated to some quick cuts of what was to come: verbal spars with Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts, Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) ruining Tony Stark's fun at an Indy car race.

But on the heels of star Robert Downey Jr's not-so-subtle plug at Sunday's Oscars, Paramount released a brand new 'Iron Man 2' trailer that gets to the heart of the action with a little more detail.

Here we get a more serious Stark, defending his role to Congress as America's protector while unveiling some new technology. But it also shows Stark growing closer to Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, and the Whiplash/Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) team-up that leads Don Cheadle's Col. Jim Rhodes to convince Stark that he can't win with a little help from a friend.

And by "friend," he means War Machine.

Having seen what happens when comic book adaptations go too villain-heavy (we're looking at you, 'Spider-Man 3' and 'Batman Forever'), the volume of major players in the 'Iron Man' sequel is a little cause for concern. Between Black Widow, Justin Hammer, Whiplash and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, director Jon Favreau definitely has his hands full as he tries to give audiences a sequel that expands on the original without suffocating the charm of its magnetic star.

But then again, when we watch the snippets of Iron Man and War Machine ready to take on Whiplash's army at the end of the trailer, we can't wait for May 7th.
