But then the race shifted -- whether via an aggressive marketing campaign, word of mouth or just something in the air -- and now, it would be a shock if Jeff Bridges didn't win his first Oscar ever for playing washed-up country singer Bad Blake in 'Crazy Heart.'

Though the movie wasn't nominated for Best Picture, it's received acclaim not just for Bridges's terrific performance, but also for its stellar soundtrack (the movie's theme song, 'The Weary Kind,' was nominated for Best Song). Maggie Gyllenhaal also received a nomination as the journalist who comes to interview Bad Blake, and just can't seem to leave.
