The director of 'The Princess Diaries' and 'Beaches' is reportedly remaking Frank Capra's 1948 political dramedy (itself based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning play), which starred Spencer Tracy as an aircraft mogul who has to make nice with his estranged wife (played by Katharine Hepburn) in order to secure his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Screenwriter Rod Lurie ('The Contender,' TV's 'Commander In Chief') is adapting the script.
According to reports, Marshall's 'Pretty Woman' and 'Runaway Bride' star Richard Gere has been attached to the Spencer Tracy role, and there have been mentions of Annette Bening ('American Beauty') as the politician's wife.
If that equation is correct, perhaps Biel would be up for the role of the crafty newspaper manager having an affair with the lead character, and who encourages him to make his presidential run. The actress is set to appear in the much-anticipated big-screen adaptation of 'The A-Team,' with Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson, this June.
