Even more interesting, the film should be on the sexual side, since Beauvoir wrote about her most intimate moments with a frankness that surprised even Algren, who lived life with little restraint himself. The two ran a radically-progressive circle of writers and philosophers that included her lifelong polyamorous lover, existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre.

Paradis hasn't done much acting of note since the 1999 French film, 'The Girl On The Bridge.' Depp, meanwhile, has received three Oscar nominations in the last decade, and will next star in Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland,' in theaters Friday.
