According to JoBlo, Showgirls 2: The Return has been financed to the tune of $25 million and follows an investigation into the murder of original character Hope, not that you'd know that from the trailer. It's become almost passé to criticise Showgirls, Paul Verhoven's muddled 1995 film about Las Vegas Strippers. It's bad, everyone knows it's bad, we should all move on. It seems some people can't leave the past behind, however, with the release of a trailer for the apparent sequel directed by Marc Vorlander.

We're first shown a gentleman called Geoff Schaff, he has a beard and a camera (just like Martin Scorsese!). Then we are treated to a quick scene of a naked woman crawling out of a bath and dragging herself along the floor before being bludgeoned to death by a blonde girl in a towel. It's like a student film where everyone forgot the deadline was tomorrow and quickly made something with whatever they had lying around (in this case, strippers).
Also it's worth noting the girl is crawling along an already existing water trail which means we know they filmed the scene more than once, y'know, just to get it right. From then on there are some random shots of people smoking cigarettes in Las Vegas bars failing wholeheartedly to look anything like the Rat Pack. Someone shoots a gun for a bit, there are some drugs and then some more gratuitous nudity. And then it ends.
It's terrible, truly terrible. Paul Verhoven must have funded it because it makes his Showgirls look like The Hurt Locker. If you want to watch the trailer then by all means hop over to JoBlo but be warned, it's a definite NSFW (unless you work in a strip club in which case go for it).
