Aside from some brief scenes -- a quiet moment between Ronnie and her mother (Kelly Preston), beach shots with Liam Hemsworth, who plays Ronnie's love interest -- the new clip mostly features gushing commentary from director Julie Ann Robinson and the rest of the cast about Cyrus' surprisingly solid acting chops.

"She's so fearless," says Robinson. "Emotionally speaking, she's just so brave."

But aside from sopping up compliments, Cyrus also takes some time during the clip to talk about what playing Ronnie, a wayward musical prodigy, means to her.

"It's kind of my breakout moment away from what people know me as," she says. "This is more of an edgy role."

'The Last Song' hits theaters March 31.
