The IMAX format has become more popular in recent years, with the former record holder being 'The Dark Knight,' which earned $66 million during its theatrical run in 2008. 'The Polar Express' has earned over $71 million in IMAX since its original release in 2004, thanks to several holiday re-releases.

Warner Bros., in particular, has been a champion of the format for some time now, usually preparing IMAX prints of its tentpole releases, such as the 'Harry Potter' films, 'Where the Wild Things Are' and this summer's 'Inception,' but more and more studios are beginning to embrace the huge-screen format. Disney hopes to earn some big bucks dollars when 'Alice in Wonderland' opens in IMAX on March 5.
