According to Variety, director Joe Wright has set his sights on the Aussie hunk as his latest leading man for Focus Features' assassin thriller 'Hanna.' Bana will star alongside Saoirse Ronan, the breakout star of Wright's Oscar-winning drama 'Atonement.'

Bana is in final negotiations to take on the role of Ronan's father. The plot centers around a 14-year-old girl who is raised as an assassin after being rescued from a CIA prison camp by her father. After trying to assimilate into a normal life with a French family, she is dragged back into her father's world to assassinate a high-ranking government official with a lot to hide. The script was written by Seth Lochhead, and is expected to begin filming in Germany in March.

Ronan was last seen playing another precocious child in Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones.' Wright's last film was the underappreciated Robert Downey Jr./Jamie Foxx drama, 'The Soloist.'

The film is already drawing inevitable comparisons to the 'Bourne' series and Luc Besson's 'La Femme Nikita,' but we think it sounds far more reminiscent of Besson's later thriller, 'The Professional,' in which a 12-year-old girl (Natalie Portman in her breakthrough role) was taken under the wing of assassin Jean Reno. Regardless of its familiar plot, Wright appears to be assembling a high-caliber cast which we hope will be able to hit the high mark set by 'Atonement.'
