Has Terrence Malick developed a new work ethic? The director -- who has made only four films in 32 years -- has tapped Christian Bale, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko (the Bond Girl in 'Quantum of Solace') to topline his second film in a year, an untitled romantic drama.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production is scheduled to go before the cameras in the fall. The director is currently in post-production on 'Tree of Life,' a period piece centered around three boys in the 1950s that stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. That film is scheduled for release later this year through Apparition. Has Terrence Malick developed a new work ethic? Back to back films for Malick is an anomaly. The director made a gigantic splash in 1973 with 'Badlands,' which starred Sissy Spacek and Martin Sheen, and then waited five years before finishing his masterpiece, 'Days of Heaven,' starring Richard Gere, Brooke Adams and Sam Shepard. Twenty years went by before he directed 'The Thin Red Line' (1998), then another seven elapsed before 'The New World' (2005).

The new film will officially be announced at Berlin's European Film Market, which takes place Feb. 11-19.
