Kate BeckinsaleThe age-old war between Vampires and Lycans (werewolves, technically, but "Lycans" sounds cooler) rages on today, as Bloody Disgusting reports that Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role as the beautiful vampire Selene in 'Underworld 4,' a "Death Dealer" specializing in sending her hairy enemies howling straight to hell.

But don't get too excited: Sources for Bloody Disgusting claim that Beckinsale wants out of the role or, at the very least, a smaller part in the movie so that she can presumably pass the franchise on to someone else.

Beckinsale starred as Selene in the first two installments, 'Underworld' (2003) and 'Underworld Evolution' (2006), and had a brief cameo in the third film, 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.' (2009). Bloody-Disgusting also reports that Beckinsale's husband, Len Wiseman, will return to direct 'Underworld 4.' Wiseman directed the first two films before handing the reins over to Patrick Tatopoulos. Wiseman went on to direct the fourth John McClane adventure, 'Live Free or Die Hard' (2007).

Perhaps what's most interesting is that Bloody-Disgusting refers to 'Underworld 4' as 'Underworld 3D.' Has Sony caught the 3D bug, too? In the meantime, 'Underworld 4' is scheduled to be released on January 21st, 2011.
