Cemetery Junction posterThe first proper trailer for the Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant comedy, Cemetery Junction, has been released and the first indication is that it may not be the film you'd expect ie an out-and-out comedy.

In the trailer below we only see Ricky for a brief moment and there's no sign of Stephen Merchant. What we do get though is a look at this coming of age story set in 1970s Reading where a chap called Freddie (Christian Cooke) is keen to break away from his working class roots, gets a job as a door to door salesman, and meets his old love played by Felicity Jones.

Originally titled The Man From the Pru (but dropped after Prudential insurance weren't too keen on the way the company looked in the film) Gervais instead named the film after a road junction in Reading, Cemetery Junction.

The comic also describes the film as a cross between The Office and Mad Men and has stated in some interviews that the script was inspired by the lyrics to Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen.

Cemetery Junction is in cinemas from 14 April.
