It's not the first time Winterbottom has entered the fray of hot-button issues, having depicted the killing of journalist Daniel Pearl in 'A Mighty Heart,' starring Angelina Jolie as his wife, Mariane. He also directed the quasi-documentary 'The Road to Guantanamo,' a hard look at three British Muslims who were held at the American detainment facility in Cuba for two years and eventually released without charges.

This week, the prolific Winterbottom has two films showing at Sundance; 'The Shock Doctrine,' a documentary about the rise of "disaster capitalism," and 'The Killer Inside Me,' a drama about a Texas deputy on a killing spree. ('The Shock Doctrine' can be seen via movie-on-demand at Sundance Selects on January 28.)

In 'Promised Land,' Sturgess ('21,' 'Across the Universe') will play a British officer who tracks down Jewish extremists who were then fighting to establish the Israeli state.
