Just yesterday, it looked like Jackie Earle Haley was the only choice for The Green Lantern's biggest bad boy, Sinestro. But it turns out, there was another man lurking in the wings: Mark Strong. Director Martin Campbell told the MTV Splash Page that Strong was in final talks to be Sinestro.

I like Haley a lot, but I think Strong is absolutely perfect for the role. Sinestro is an intellectual first and foremost, and his corruption comes about because he is so determined to protect his own people. He becomes obsessed with power, control, and punishment. In other words, he's the kind of villain Strong excels at playing -- men whose brains equal or exceed their physical capabilities. If you don't believe me, listen to Campbell's opinion: "He's not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro. If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he's very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life."

Campbell also confirmed that Lantern's Kilowog (a loveable bulldoggy alien) and Tomar-Re (a loveable bird-like alien) will be in it, as will Abin-Sur which we already knew from casting calls. It'll be exciting to see who they nab for those, which will undoubtedly be speaking / motion capture parts, but no less important to the Lantern movie. All things considered (and Blake Lively's youth aside), Lantern is shaping up to have one heck of a cast, particularly on its darker side. What do you think of Strong as Sinestro?
